Indeed. I expected better in Canada. Silly me.

I’ve been thinking about your comments, Wendy. Guess, I’ll start here:

We do watch the National every night. With the exception of Ian, it ain’t what it used to be. More’s the pity. I often wonder, who are the Producers.

We also watch morning & noon CTV & Global national and supper time local news. And we watch CNN and U.S. mainstream networks from time to time.

Additionally, we watch online “news” reports. And until recently I was a NYT subscriber. However, their editorial positions are no longer what I expect from them, so I’ve cancelled. I also subscribe to WAPO and Toronto Star - online.

Maybe all of this is because I’m an old bugger who grew up with parents who read three newspapers daily and with a Scottish mum who found solace in CBC Radio as it reminded her of BBC from home. Annnddd..I was, in a former life, a CBC Radio Public Affairs Producer. But, My American hubby grew up with none of that, and he too is addicted to news.

Media is imperative to democracy and a free and open society. It’s true that today’s journalism isn’t at the same standard as my Corp. days. I lament the loss of you and Lisa Laflamme, amongst others, because of your credibility, trustworthiness and your professionalism. Journalism is the less without you.

I do not agree that online is an ok replacement for TV and Radio News. Many don’t have access to solid internet, is one reason, however, even more importantly, “ we can see the whites of their eyes” in TV news and hear so much more than just words on Radio.

Further, I also want to know global news and local is just as important. Online outlets just don’t do much of that.

These days online, it’s just politics, day in day out. A Petri dish of hatred and angst from every quarter. No one wants to read this. They want the facts. Only. And they will decide what to do with that. As I recall, facts only, was the fundamental rule back in the day at Mother Corp. And I was proud to uphold that standard.

Miss you, Wendy!
